There re two options for erasing data from your decommissioned drives physical destruction and data wiping.
Shredding chews the drives up and spits out in small pieces, Punch ole systems punches a hole, data wiping using software to wipe existing data-which allows the drives to be reused. (better for the environment).
We use a NIAP certified wiping tool called Wipe Drive that overwrites all addressable storage and indexing locations on the drive either one or three times: with zeros (0x00), complement (0xFF) and random characters; and then verifies all writing procedures. If the drives have a resale value, which is more than the cost of the service and if the customer agrees, we can in most cases provide this service free of charge as we can resell the drives. This is determined once we have the specifications of the drives.
1. Standard 1 pass (just as secure as 3 pass) is $7 per drive (volume discounts available). This fee is waived if drives have downstream value and can be resold per agreement with customer. If we have to remove the drive, the cost is $9 per drive.
2. DOD approved 3 pass which includes a report of serial numbers and specifications of drives is $9 per drive. Volume discounts (over qty 100) are available. This fee is waived if drives have downstream value and can be resold per agreement with customer. If we have to remove the drive, the cost is $11 per drive.
If the drives have no resale value than we suggest shredding the drive. If drives are already removed, the cost is $8 per drive. If we have to remove the drive, the cost is $10 per drive. For extra security and for recycling purposes, we remove the circuit boards from all drives before they are shred. This renders the drives useless even before the destruction process. Our partner WC Recycling performs our drive shredding in their secure facility. If necessary, we can have a mobile shred company destroy the drives at our site.
